Summer Camp
The Harris Family Children's Center will once again be offering summer camp opportunities to PEA families and the surrounding community beginning in June 2009. Our camp will offer an array of experiences in music, art, drama, science and physical fitness for children in kindergarten through third grades.
Special guests from Wildlife Encounters, Seacoast Science and other outreach programs will be invited to share their expertise with the children. Additionally, children in the older group who are at least 6 years of age or 55" tall and not legally required to use a car or booster seat will be taking local field trips to area events…details will be forthcoming.
Our new state-of-the-art facility is designed with several common areas to enhance the children's hands on learning experiences. The Harkness Conservatory, modeled after the Italian art studio, has an abundance of natural light. It is equipped with a variety of mediums made of natural and recycled materials, clays and paints that provide our young artists with endless creative possibilities.
Children will have the opportunity to participate in ethnic cooking activities in our fully equipped, open concept kitchen and the spacious Great Room is set up to provide plenty of room for gross motor activities, shadow play and dramatic expression.
Our spacious outdoor learning environment abuts Swazey Parkway and the Squampscott River where children spend countless hours observing the local habitat. Our playground houses an oversized gazebo that overlooks the river, a Zen garden for contemplative play, a fairy garden for imaginative play, giant chimes for sensorial stimulation, a sea serpent for climbing, a basketball court and a large green space for organized sports.
