Director of Studies
The position of Director of Studies was established in 1985 as part of "A New Curriculum at Exeter," in order to provide the mechanism and leadership for supervising the curriculum as a whole.
While some of the tasks and responsibilities have changed since then, the emphasis remains on initiating and coordinating curricular change, encouraging communication among departments on issues of teaching and learning, and promoting and maintaining interdisciplinary courses, including the current programs of Senior Studies, and senior projects.
The Curriculum Committee, and the Director of Studies as chair, have the primary responsibility for the curriculum and recommend to the faculty the approval or disapproval of new courses and programs, or possible elimination of current offerings when warranted. The goals are to ensure continuing quality in all of Exeter's learning experiences, to be proactive in initiating and supporting changes when appropriate, and to remain a leader in secondary education.
