Test Preparation
Studies show that test preparation over time yields better results; therefore, we encourage students to develop a plan for independent test prep and practice. There are numerous resources available for students as they prepare for testing.
At Exeter, it is customary for lowers and uppers to take the PSAT. The PSAT Score Report serves as a tool for students to identify their proficiency in verbal reasoning, writing and math problem solving skills; thus, students can work to improve these skills before taking the official SAT. After taking the PSAT, students will receive access to College Board's My College QuickStart™.
The Academy Library maintains a large selection of test preparation books by College Board and Princeton Review; these books are located in the "Reserve" section. In addition, copies of College Board's Official SAT Study Guide are available for purchase in the bookstore.
In January of the upper year, students will receive access to College Board's Official SAT Online Course™. Key features of the course include 6 practice tests; detailed personalized feedback on all practice tests and quizzes; 18 interactive lessons, covering the math, critical reading, and writing sections; explanations of answers to all questions in the online course; and auto essay scoring for all essay prompts in the online course. (If you have misplaced your login information, please see your college counselor.)
To supplement the work you do online, we encourage you to review publications made available by College Board and ACT. Both organizations offer paper booklets which cover each test section, various strategies and full-length practice tests. Hard copies of the booklets are available in the College Counselign Office, or you may access them online:
