Gilbert Concert Series
The Gilbert Concert Series is made possible by the Jane and Clint Gilbert ’47 Music Fund. Academy alumnus Clint Gilbert ’47 and his wife, Jane, are passionate and life-long music lovers who established the fund in 1998 in order to enhance the study and performance of music at Exeter.
Gilbert Concert Series Upcoming Events
The Gilbert Concert Series nourishes the culture of the Exeter community and the community at large by bringing high-caliber artists to campus for performances, master classes and workshops. Gilbert Concert Series performers are selected not only for their professional dedication and accomplishments, but also for the passion they bring to sharing their artistry with others, especially young people.
Most students at Exeter choose to make music a vital part of their school lives and they are hungry for opportunities to interact with visiting artists. Collaborating with professional musicians in master classes and workshops exposes our students to the highest levels of craftsmanship across a wide range of musical genres. Students are encouraged to stretch their inner resources and demand new levels of excellence in their own studies, and the inspiration goes both ways—the dedication, talent and energy that Exeter students bring to the master classes inform and inspire our visiting artists.
Recently, the Gilbert Concert Series has expanded to include excursions to attend the live HD Broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera at the Portsmouth Music Hall in Portsmouth, NH. Students experience Lincoln Center performances on screen in the elegant Music Hall, a historic 900-seat theater—the oldest in New Hampshire and designated an “American Treasure” by the U.S. Senate and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Attending the opera is a new experience for many of our students and they rave about the performances. The Gilbert Music Fund is inspiring a new generation to become lifelong supporters of the arts in their communities.
