Junior Studies is required of all Juniors during the fall term. It is a skills-based course designed to introduce students to the school’s pedagogy, expectations and resources.

Junior Studies provides incoming ninth graders with the opportunity to practice essential academic skills such as close observation, research, and critical reading and writing, and to develop the habits of speaking and listening required at the Harkness table. In fall 2009 the course will focus on the history and identity of Exeter: the school, the town, and the natural environment. Course materials and activities ask students to consider how the institution has realized the values articulated in John Phillips' Deed of Gift: educating "youth from every quarter" for knowledge, goodness, and usefulness to humankind. Designed and taught by instructors from across the disciplines, the course also introduces students to the extensive resources available on campus, including the Class of 1945 Library. Offered Fall Term.
