The Academy’s Health Education offerings include required courses for all ninth-grade students and new 10th-grade students, as well as electives for seniors. Consistent with the Academy’s Harkness philosophy, our courses challenge students to stretch their understandings of health issues in a trusting and respectful environment. While the Health Education faculty believes it is important that students have accurate, up-to-date information about health topics, we do not believe that knowledge, alone, is sufficient. In order to facilitate positive health choices, we provide opportunities for students to examine their values and attitudes, as well as develop critical thinking, decision-making, self-advocacy, and interpersonal skills. By doing so, we aim to empower students to make healthful, responsible decisions for themselves and their communities, today and in the future.
