Meet the Teachers
On Harkness teaching: "Science classrooms are set up with a Harkness table and lab space. It makes teaching physics a very fluid process. We can set up a quick experiment and then come to the table and theorize about it, or vice versa."
Favorite lesson: "I teach a modern physics elective that covers relativity and quantum mechanics. It's fun to try to wrap your brain around. Intuition lets you down at some point, and it's in finding where the logic breaks down that you really start to learn. Kids love to look for ways to outwit the theory of relativity."
Advice: "Stay on top of the reading! It's manageable, but you can't let it slide. One of the most valuable things you'll learn here is how to manage your time to get done whatever you need to."
Other hats: He's a dorm adviser and runs Exeter Outdoors, a non-competitive program that lets students explore Exeter's surrounding area through biking, hiking, rock climbing and canoeing. "Plus I recently started a contra dance band that holds dances for students on campus!"
