PHYSICS
Folk guitarist who experiments with beehive designs and solar power in his spare time.
B.A. Clark University; Ed.M. Harvard University. Appointed 1988.

On Harkness teaching: “Physics provides so many opportunities to let students puzzle through interesting situations, and that process of puzzling out something that seems counter-intuitive or impossibly difficult is a great way to learn. Harkness works best when students are willing to put their thinking on the table where it can be dissected and analyzed by everyone.”

Other hats: Mountain School Committee chair; prep crew coach. “It is an opportunity to work with young students, many of whom have never seen themselves as athletes. It is a joy to watch them progress.”

Word on the street: “I think students know me as a folksy guy who gets overly excited about physics, dogs and the planet Earth.”
