How to Apply?

Applications for 9th and 10th grade are no longer being accepted for September 2008.

If you are interested in applying for September 2009, you will need to complete the 2009 application, which will not be available until late September 2008. Please check back at that time.

We are still accepting applications for 11th and 12th grades and PG year for September 2008.

  1. If you are applying for September 2008 for grades 11, 12 or PG complete the Applicant Information Form (AIF) as soon as possible.

  2. Send the appropriate application fee to Admissions. For applicants with a domestic postal address, please submit $50 nonrefundable fee; for applicants with a non-U.S. postal ZIP code, please submit $100 nonrefundable application fee. Application fees need to be mailed; we are unable to process fees through the internet or over the phone.

  3. To apply for financial assistance, check the "Yes" box on the first page of the Applicant Information Form (AIF).

  4. Schedule your interview. A personal interview is required of all applicants. We’d certainly like for you to see campus and experience Exeter in person, however if you are unable to travel to campus, we will schedule an off-campus interview for you.

To schedule an on-campus interview, please call the Admissions Office at 603-777-3437. Please remember there is a limited number of on-campus interview appointments available each day. Calling well in advance will help ensure you get the appointment day and time which best fits your schedule. The deadline for on-campus interviews is Thursday, January 31.

If you require an off-campus interview, check the "Off-Campus" box at the bottom of the third page of the Applicant Information Form, then return the form to us as early as possible. Off-campus interview requests must be received by January 7 or we can not guarantee being able to coordinate an interview in time for a March 10 decision.

  5. Register and take the appropriate testing. The requirements for testing differ depending on if you are applying for grades 9-11 or grade 12 or a post-graduate year. If you are a student for whom English is not your primary language, or has not been your primary language of instruction for your most recent four years of schooling, you will be required to submit a TOEFL score. All testing should be completed and submitted by January 15.
  6. Download and complete the application forms listed below:

Parent Statement (optional) - to be completed by the parent; used by Admissions to help us understand how we can best educate and guide a student.

Review our Application Procedures for how to proceed if you have unique circumstances, such as block scheduling of your classes.

Please note: Exeter is a member of the Ten Schools Admission Organization and the following member schools have elected to use the common English Recommendation, Mathematics Recommendation and School Report forms: Choate Rosemary Hall, Deerfield Academy, The Hill School, Hotchkiss School, The Lawrenceville School, Loomis Chaffee School, Phillips Academy, Phillips Exeter Academy, St. Paul's School, and The Taft School. For a listing of other participating schools, please contact The Association of Boarding Schools at (800) 541-5908, or visit the TABS website.
  7. Work with your school to ensure that Exeter receives your recommendations and transcripts. Give the recommendation forms to the appropriate individuals. A school official will send the completed School Report along with transcripts directly to Exeter. The English, Math and Extracurricular Recommendations should be sent directly to Exeter as well.
  8. Review the Application Checklist to be sure you have taken care of all the necessary pieces.

Applications which are completed by January 15, meaning the applicant has had an official interview during the current application season, and Admissions has received each of the following: the AIF; school report; English, math and extracurricular recommendations; student essays; and all applicable testing as outlined in the Application procedures, can expect a decision in March 2008.

And as always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
