Violinist and Violist to Perform Mozart, Dvorák at Faculty Recital

Exeter, NH (April 15, 2008)–Phillips Exeter Academy music instructors will perform in concert works by Covell, Dvorák, Morley, Mozart, Raytchev and Reger, in Phillips Church, located on the corner of Tan Lane and Front Street. The event is free and open to the public.
Violinist Deborah Boykan and violist Dimitar Petkov will perform Mozart’s “Duo for Violin and Viola in G major, K. 423”; Morley’s “Two Fantasias for Violin and Viola”; and Dvorák’s “Romance for Violin and Piano in F minor,” among others on Tuesday, April 22, at 7 p.m.
Boykan is a freelance musician who has performed with Opera Boston, Boston Ballet, Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, Emmanuel Music and Boston Classical Orchestra, among others. A recipient of the Guggenheim Foundation student fellowship, she is a former member of the Basel Sinfonietta, in Basel, Switzerland, and a graduate of Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Oberlin College. In addition to teaching at PEA, Boykan operates a violin/viola and chamber music studio at her home.
Petkov is a Bulgarian violist who has performed in Bulgaria, Greece, Germany, Italy, Turkey and the United States. He has served as Principal Violist of Southwest Florida Philharmonic and Spoleto Festival Orchestra in Spoleto, Italy. Petkov was also a member of Sofia Philharmonic and the National Bulgarian Radio Orchestra. He is a graduate of Longy School of Music, and currently performs with Boston Modern Orchestra Project, New England String Ensemble and Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra, among others. Petkov serves as a faculty member at several schools, including PEA and Powers Music School.
