EXETER 28 Avon Old Farms 6
The Big Red of Exeter opened up the 2012 season with the longest road trip of the year and came away with a solid 28-6 win over an excellent AOF squad! Led by newly elected senior Captains Hunter Cary, Devon Carrillo, Andreas Robinson and Wes Abram the Big Red took the new turf field at AOF. Also elected by the team as Captain of the Week was Sr. Christian Ayscue (Exeter, NH) for his outstanding pre-season play!
After a scoreless first quarter both offenses were held in check with excellent play by both defenses of the Big Red and the Winged Beavers. In the second quarter AOF had some success throwing the ball on short passes. The Big Red countered successfully running the ball as well as hitting timely passes including a 55 yard hook up from QB Jonathon Dibiaso ( Everett, MA) to Senior WR and Captain Hunter Cary ( No.Hampton, NH). This set up a three yard TD scamper by Dibiaso. The extra point was no good and the Exeter boys took a 6-0 lead into the half! The Exeter defense played an excellent first half led by inside Linebackers Matt Girard (Holyoke, MA) and Matt McKay (Westford, MA).
The secondary of Carillo, Robinson, Cary, Joey Hebl (Racine, WI) and Stefan Soucy (Exeter,NH) held the deep passing game of AOF in check all game long. Included in this effort were several knockdowns of passes and an interception by Hebl that led to the first score of the second half. A two yard run by Carillo with a two point conversion tacked on by Matthew Greaves (Irvington, NJ). The 14-0 lead did not last long as AOF’s return man Blake Feagles excited the crowd with an 86 yard Kick Off return for a TD…the conversion failed and Exeter now led 14-6.
The Big Red would add on two more TD’s one each by Robinson and Cary with the extra points by Mark Serbent (Waterville, ME) to finish up the scoring and make the final 28-6. Plenty of substitutions were made in the 3rd and 4th quarters for the younger Big Red to gain valuable game experience. Great Defensive effort!
The Big Red would like to thank the Della and Pat Corcoran (Forrest ’13, Jason’16) for hosting a wonderful post- game dinner at their home in Farmington, CT.
