The Golf Team opened their season Wednesday with a 7 – 3 point win over Tabor Academy at the beautiful “Kittansett Club” in Marion MA. The weather was overcast and cold, but the overall play was hot for the team.

Led by Captain Andrew “Jank” Jankowski and Anthony Dilsio, earning 2.5 points, Dakota Mivshek and Felipe Ocha Virijives earning 2.5 points, Jake” The Snake” Abrahams and Player Haynes earning one point and Emily Gibadlo winning her singles match earning one point.

Cheering on the team was PEA Class of “68” Claude Hoopes, who greeted each player at the end of their match. He fondly remembered playing in the Tabor Match 41 years ago to the day as a member of the PEA Team.

The next match is scheduled at the Essex Country Club against Andover and Governor's Academy next Wednesday. April 8th at 2:30. Submitted by Coach Bailey

The Golf Team played their 2^nd match of the season Wednesday with a 6-1 point win over Philips Andover Academy in Match Play and scoring a 425 against Governor’s School (461) and Phillips Andover (460) in Stroke Play at the beautiful “Essex County Club” in Manchester by the Sea MA. The weather was sunny and breezy, but the overall play was steady by the team.

Led by Anthony DiLisio, who was the Medalist of the Day shooting a 78, winning his point. The following players earned wins in their matches. Felipe Ochoa Virijevic. Austin Cheng, Alexandra Fuiks, Jake “The Snake” Abrahams and Emily Gibadlo.

The players really enjoyed the Essex County Club, a Donald Ross course, built in 1893. You can even see his house on the 14^th hole, where he lived while the course was being built. Standing on the 1^st Tee, you could feel like you were in Scotland as the links style course lay out in front of you. A special thanks to Mike Noonves of Governors School for arranging this match at this historic course.

The next match is scheduled at Crumpin-Fox against Deerfield Academy next Saturday, April 11th at 2:00.

The Golf Team played their 3^rd match of the season Saturday with a close 3.5 – 5.5 loss to a strong Deerfield Academy team. Crumpin-Fox Country Club was the site of the match. The weather was overcast and breezy, but the overall play was steady and competitive by the team.

Led by Anthony “2 Shoe’s” DiLisio, who won his match shooting a cool 74, to win his point. The following players earned wins in their matches. Jake “The Snake” Abrahams 83, Austin “Tex”Cheng 84 and Alexandra Fuiks winning a half point.

The players enjoyed the Crump, a favorite of Coach Mangan. A longtime friend of the Chief told a story of The Chief coming to the Crump last fall to play one of his final rounds of golf at one of his favorite venues. A special thanks to Nick Albertson of Deerfield Academy for arranging this match at this challenging course.

The setting, Newport Country Club in Newport Rhode Island, NCC is one of the founding member/clubs of the USGA and the host of the Andover Invitational. A special thanks to Robert G. Manice, NCC Vice President for arranging this wonderful event.

The Golf Team played their 5th match of the season Saturday, shooting 336 in the medal play event. The weather was at the mercy of Mother Nature as the sea fog provided the players with a challenge for the first nine holes. As the second nine began it cleared to a spectacular day at the seaside course.

Led by Anthony “2 Shoe’s” DiLisio’s 75, which won him the “Robert G. Manice” Medalist Award, shooting a stellar score. With his continued solid play Capt. Jank carded a 82, Austin “Tex Cheng” 88, Jake “The Snake” Abrahams 92 and Felipe “4 I-ron” Ocha 92.

The players enjoyed the Newport Country Club playing difficult in the sea mist and wind. Their efforts gave them a third place finish behind Taft School and Salisbury. Andover, Deerfield, Hotchkiss, Loomis, Tabor and St. Georges also participated in this extraordinary event.

The setting, Portsmouth CC, our home venue on The Great Bay in Greenland. The weather was beautiful and the teams play was reflected in their scores.

The Golf Team played their 6th match of the season Wednesday, winning 8 – 2 in the match play and team best ball event.

Led by Anthony “2 Shoe’s” DiLisio’s 75, which won him the medalist honors. With his continued improving play Capt. Jank carded a 76, Austin “Tex Cheng” 81, Jake “The Snake” Abrahams 85 and Felipe “4 I-ron” Ochoa 89, Christine “Queen” Kong 96 and Player “Playah” Haynes 97.

Christine 1 down. Making a valiant effort from 3 down with 4 to play, she battled to half the match, but her opponent made a great up and down to close the match. This was Christine’s first match at PEA.

Led by Anthony “2 Shoe’s” DiLisio’s 38, which won him the medalist honors. Firing a fine 41 was Jake” The Snake” Abrahams who stay’s undefeated in Match Play. Austin “Tex“ Cheng and Christine “Queen” Kong both contributed to the effort shooting solid 44”s. Sean “Canuck” Coleman fired a 46, Ryan Baker adding a 52 and Yidan “Dice Maker” Li carding a 55

The setting, Sagamore Golf Club, our home away from home in North Hampton. The weather was beautiful and the teams play was reflected in their scores.

The Golf Team played their 8th match of the season Wednesday, winning 7 – 3 in the match play and team best ball event. Their record stands at 7-1.

Captain Jank earner Medalist Honors for the first time this season, shooting a nifty 36 in this nine hole event. Jake “The Snake” Abrahams remained undefeated in match play shooting a 42. Fellow senior Felipe “The Bogotá Bomber” continued his solid play firing a 40 and winning his match. “Tex” Cheng won his match shooting a 42 Anthony “2 Shoe’s” DiLisio’s shot a 39 winning a half a point, Emily Gibadlo shot a 44 winning her match along with her fellow teammate Player “Playah” Haynes.

The setting Olde Newbury CC, home course of Governor’s School. The weather was sunny and breezy at this course by the sea. The course was challenging, but the team was up to the challenge.

The Golf Team played their 9th match of the season Saturday, winning the tri-match, stroke play event in the second leg of the “Witherspoon Cup”. The team’s record stands at 8-1.

Felipe “The Bogotá Bomber” earned Medalist Honors for the first time this season, shooting a solid 39 in this nine hole event. Capt. Jank continued his strong play firing 40. Tony “2-Shoe’s” Dilisio and Tex Cheng contributed by shooting 42 with Jake “The Snake” Abrahams, Sean “Canuck” Coleman and Ryan Baker each shot 45.

Felipe playing in the 5 position played very well from Tee to Green and found his putting stroke on the tough greens. It was a great and timely effort from the senior.

Phillips Exeter @ The Kingwood – Oxford Invitational

May 20, 2009

The setting was Oak Ridge CC, in Rolling Hills MA. The weather was perfect, 74 degrees with a light breeze. The course was challenging, but the team was up to the challenge.

The Golf Team played their final match of the season Wednesday, placing third in a field of 23 teams representing the best private schools from around New England. This was the 33^rd addition of this spectacular event.

Capt. Jank continued his strong play firing a 73, placing him 2^nd overall in this strong field. Tony 2-Shoes Dilisio fired a very good 79, Jake “The Snake” Abrahams posted a very sweet 83, Felipe “The Bogotá Bomber” added an 85 and Tex Cheng contributed by shooting 89.

“Capt. Jank” played the round of the season for him, finishing 2^nd. His 3 over score held up until the last group’s scores were posted. It was a great way for the Captain to finish his four year participation with the golf program. Andrew and all the seniors will be greatly missed.

The Golf Team’s final record was 9-1 in match play competitions and two 3^rd place finishes in Invitational Tournament play. They were a dominate force on the course and they represented The Academy with fierce play, dedication, respect and pride.

It has been a pleasure working with these outstanding young men and women. I know “The Chief” is proud!!! His tradition lives on through their efforts.—Submitted by Coach Bailey
