After a long drive, Big Red took some time to get the game flowing against Miss Porters. We played even to 14-14, mostly trading serves a point at a time. We then broke it open on Cindy Teng's serve, as she ran a streak of four. Cindy also finished the game with a second streak of four. Miss Porters played tough defense, but eventually Lucy Abell and Kate Kelly started finding some holes. They ended with 8 kills and 7 kills respectively. Our strong serve receive helped the winning effort.
Against Taft, our serves were a key to the victory. We scored 13 aces, including 4 by Olivia Fankuchen. Cindy Teng again led the scoring with 10 service points. Midway through the first game, Taft put together a comeback effort, but we regained our focus and finished off the game. Passing wasn't as good as usual, resulting in fewer hits and kills overall. It was great to come home with two wins.

The momentum in an exciting first game swung back and forth. We came back from a late game deficit to win, 30-28. Choate neutralized our attack with strong blocking and covered their court well.
The second game was similar, but we were unable to hold off Choate's late rally. Unfortunately, we couldn't mentally bounce back from that loss and generate the intensity we needed.

This was a sweet win for Exeter against a hard-hitting Loomis Chaffee squad. It was our best effort so far this season, with excellent communication, motion, and great teamwork.
The first game went back and forth until Cana Dai opened up a lead with a 6-point service run to take us to 25-22.
We dominated the second game, as our defense silenced the Loomis hitters.
The third game was tight until Kate Kelly's 6-point service run put us ahead 19-14. Our attack was smart and effective throughout the match, with kills coming on a wide variety of shots. -- Submitted by Scott Saltman

Big Red took an early lead in each of the three games. St. Paul’s played scrappy defense, but couldn't generate significant offense and had a lot of trouble from the service line. We covered our court well, hit from all positions, and forced errors by St. Paul’s.
Olivia Fankuchen and Cindy Teng each produced 18 points on their serves. Ariana Marnicio's lively play in the second and third games helped to keep the team energized and playing at our own high level.

Exeter came out ahead in a hard fought match on the road against NMH. After allowing a nine point run in the first game, we slowly came back by siding out five straight servers. Kiki Fonge put us ahead for good with a five point service run. We were behind most of the second game until an eight point run by Kate Kelly put us ahead 26-23. However, we couldn't hold off the next NMH server and fell behind 26-30. We dominated the third game, thanks in part to a nine point service run by Lucy Abell. In the fourth game, we couldn't put together much offense and NMH found some holes in our defense. We regained our composure and determination in the fifth game, got the offense going again and cruised to a 15-4 win. Kate Kelly had a seven point run to increase her total for the day to 22 points. Lucy Abell and Kate Kelly both had season highs on kills, with 12 and 15 respectively. –Submitted by Coach Saltman

Big Red ran into a tough Andover team and lost in three straight games. The first game was close, but we couldn't get a run going to take a lead. We took a 10-2 lead at the beginning of the second game, but lost momentum with an Andover timeout. At that point, we started making a lot of unforced errors and were outscored badly. We never fully regained our offense. We played hard and put up a good fight. Our defense surprised Andover, as we picked up hard hits that they expected to land. We're going to have to pick up our level of play in every aspect in order to defeat Andover in the rematch in a few weeks.

Before a Parent's Weekend crowd, Big Red Volleyball played well and soundly beat Deerfield. Sloppy play, including five missed serves, made the first game close. We were down 21-25, but we sided out the next three servers and took the game 30-27. From that point forward, we dominated the net. Lucy Abell and Kate Kelly were each in double-digits in kills, easily finding holes in Deerfield's defense. Strong blocking and solid defense neutralized Deerfield's offense. Cindy Teng returned to double-digits with 15 service points.

With cheers of "Go Bigger Red", Exeter soundly defeated St. Paul's. We sided out easily, only allowing one run of 4 points and a few 2 point runs. Cindy Teng put us ahead with service streaks in games one and three. Kiki Fonge's 10 point streak propelled us to a win in the second game. Louise Breen had a big day in the middle, with 7 kills and 4 stuff blocks. Despite covering the court well, we had a tough time passing accurately and getting the offense in gear.

After a delayed start, Big Red jumped out to an early lead. We moved and communicated well and dominated play at the net. Kate Kelly and Olivia Lenson delivered some big kills. We served well, with several players putting together streaks. Serve receive should have been better and we had difficulty siding out a few Cushing servers. We now have our sights set on two tough matches next week.

Big Red traveled to New Hampton today and bumped our record to 11-2 with a 3-0 win. We maintained the momentum the entire match, allowing no more than a few three point runs. Our serve was our biggest offensive weapon, as we had 27 aces on the day. Olivia Fankuchen surpassed an 11 year old record, recording her 58th ace of the season. The team eclipsed a 2 year old record with a current total of 212 aces. We have a lot of work to do in the next few days as we prepare for Andover on Saturday.

The scores and stats don't reflect how well we played today against an undefeated Andover team. After a slow start, going down 0-5, Big Red got in gear and started playing defense. On Lucy Abell's 10 point service streak, we brought it to 24-26. The second game was close throughout. We had a small lead at various points, but other than Lucy's service run in the first game, we couldn't maintain momentum. We also lost middle blocker Monica Jain to an ankle injury. Andover pulled away in the third game. Behind libero Olivia Fankuchen, we played excellent defense throughout the match, digging hard hit balls and saving plays with hustle. Serve receive was also strong. The offense never fully got going, although Kate Kelly tallied 11 kills on the day. Our best offense was when we caught Andover off guard with tips, roll shots, and tooling the block. It's tough to go down 0-3, but we are proud of how we played and how we made Andover work for their victory. We will play Loomis in the quarterfinals on Wednesday and if we advance we'll see Andover again in the semifinals.

After an exciting opening series of plays and a 11-8 lead, Big Red lost its rhythm and never fully regained it. Loomis had two capable hitters. While we were able to dig reasonably effectively, we couldn't generate any offense off the digs. Our serve receive was similarly lacking. Without good passes, we couldn't get good sets or hits. Captain Lucy Abell, playing in her last Exeter match, played her heart out, hustling all over the floor and hitting 37 attacks. Congratulations to Loomis for their improvement since we defeated them five weeks ago and for their advancement in the tournament.
