Boys Ice Hockey: 2008 Season Roundup
Overall Record: 19 – 8 – 2
The team had big wins over New England powerhouse Cushing, and a win over Andover at mid-season. Their successful season led to a third seed berth in the New England tournament where the Big Red traveled to Belmont Hill and played one of the longest games in Exeter hockey history, losing 4-3 in triple overtime.
Senior James Clayton finished his career as the sixth all-time leading scorer with 128 points, 56 of which came this season as he finished the year in the top ten in scoring in all of Division 1.
Jamie Core '08 led the team with 21 goals. Charlie Brewer '08 and Cam Chaput '08 played their usual high energy, high impact style – always giving 100% to the cause.
Senior goaltender Ryan Purdy broke every goalie record at Exeter. He played 1,560 minutes, faced 917 shots and saved 852 of them for an all time best save percentage of .929.
In the playoff game versus Belmont Hill, Ryan made 63 saves in 67 shots and was voted the All East goalie by opposing coaches.
