Boys Basketball: 2009 Season Roundup

Overall record: 14 -5

In a year that was dominated by away gamesonly 7 home games versus 12 awayExeter managed to win all of the contests they were favored to win and a couple in which they were considered heavy underdogs. In the second game of the Mercer Christmas Tournament, Exeter defeated Class A rival Worcester Academy by the score of 74-70. Down three of their top seven players, the boys pulled off Exeter's first win at Worcester in over 40 years. Additionally, impressive wins versus a nationally ranked New Hampton School and road victories against Cushing Academy helped this team tie for the second most wins by an Exeter team in the modern Class A era. All 5 of the losses this year came at the hands of teams ranked in the top 13 nationally. The final win of the season versus Andover extended Exeter's winning streak to 11 consecutive games on the rivalry weekend.

Captains Josh Bartelstein, Mitchell Kates and Greg St. Jean managed to cultivate an enthusiastic and mentally tough environment for a team that experienced key injuries to several players throughout the year. Bartelstein and Pat Donnelly connected for a combined 95 three-point shots for the seasonsharing the team high scoring average of 13 points per game with Cody Mivshek and Mitchell Kates. St. Jean led the team with 5.5 assists per game while Rob Reid contributed nearly 10 rebounds per game.

The boys basketball team would like to congratulate the winter sports teams and thank the student body for your support throughout the year.
