Girls Ice Hockey: 2009 Season Roundup
Overall Record: 19-6-1
Results vs Andover: 2 losses
Highlights:
The girls Ice Hockey team had a remarkable season. For the first time in 9 years, they made it to the NEPSAC Playoffs. The important games that got them to the playoffs:
- Defeating Choate 2-0 in just their second game of the season.
- Winning their Inaugural New Years Invitational Tournament with wins over Culver Academy, Brooks School and winning the championship game in OT over Brewster with a goal by senior Kate Cunningham.
- Defeating Pomfret and coming back to beat Berkshire 4-3 in mid-season.
All of this could not have been done without the seniors—the backbone of the team. Four-year letter winners were Lauren Greer, Kate Cunningham, and Allison Franklin.
Newcomer Katharine Pujol held strong on the blue-line with teammate Mariah Napolitano. Mariah missed last season with an ACL reconstruction, but proved herself this year on defense. Kat Pettengill held strong in goal, and was the most supportive player on the team.
Lauren Greer was named to the Division 1 All New England Girls Prep School Team for her remarkable season. She ended this season with 44 points, 23 goals and 21 assists, which puts her 4 year total at 163 points. In all, she scored 111 goals and tallied 52 assists to end her Exeter career.
Lisa Marshall played outstanding between the pipes this year, recording 7 shutouts and ended with a 92% save percentage.
Special thanks to Kate Cunningham and Lauren Greer for being excellent captains and a thank you to all the players on the team. Another thanks is in store for Coach Young, and our managers: Alyx Churchill and Vivian DiBuono. And who could forget our professional videographer, Min-Jae Kim.
