Boys Lacrosse: 2009 Season Roundup

On the attack vs Wichendon, May 13, 2009

After graduating 19 seniors from last year's team and having a very young offensive unit, it initially looked like this could be a rebuilding year for the boys varsity lacrosse team. Instead, the team had a great 12-4 season with the biggest win coming last Friday night with a 9-4 convincing victory over Andover.

The team had great leadership with four excellent captains in Matt Callahan, Max Cassidy, Sam Gardner, and Tyler Page. The top three scorers were Eric Slingerland, Patrick Johnson, and Charlie Gill. Eric set a new Exeter scoring record for midfielders with 61 points; Charlie set a new prep record for scoring with 51 points; and Patrick's 54 points was the 2nd most ever for a 10th grader.

By a vote of Eastern coaches, Matt Callahan and Eric Slingerland were named high school All-Americans, and  Max Cassidy, Matt Hatch, Matt Callahan, Tyler Page and Sam Gardner were selected to play in the Eastern New England Prep Senior All Star game. In addition, Sam Gardner was selected to play in the very prestigious National Senior Showcase in late June at Bryant University.

Captains-elect are Ryan Breen, Greg Jenkins, Sean Fujimori, Mike Sotak, and Eric Slingerland
