Led by senior captain Katie Courtin and upper captain Tamar Nisbett and with a total of 8 senior athletes, the crew of 2009 achieved beyond expectation in what was predicted to be a rebuilding year. Since 13 seniors had graduated in 2008, novices in 2009 had to learn quickly to perfect their strokes to make a major impact in the boats. Exceptionally fit athletes, bolstered by weight sessions with Coach Sweet, they filled those big shoes admirably. New upper Devi Lockwood provided leadership in the stroke seat while Grace Cassidy, another new upper, kept the power on in the engine room.

In G2, new upper Maggie Bacon also proved that fitness is the secret to learning to row quickly, while G3 welcomed novices Mimi Reichenbach, Blair Baker, and Shannon Dominguez to the sport. Dedicated seniors set the tone for these new rowers: Katie DeAngelis, Erin Metcalf, Anne Preston, Bhargavi Puppala, Michaela Tolman, Ari Wakeman, and Paige Wilson. Special thanks to manager Caroline Thomas for all her help and support this season.

In the New England Championship on May 23, the girls achieved the spectacular result of sweeping the regatta in all three boats. This means they won gold medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd boats for the second year in a rowa first in the history of the regatta. This resounding victory also earned the team the E. Arthur Gilcreast Team Point Trophy for the 4th year in a row. In the final event of the day in what was predicted to be a tight race, the 1st boat put on an impressive sprint to win the event by a generous margin of 3.8 seconds, putting open water between Exeter and Andover, their stiffest competition this season.

The G1 boat has an automatic invitation to the U.S. Junior National Championship Regatta in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 12-14.
