Girls Softball: 2009 Season Roundup

Scoring a run vs. Brewster on May 13, 2009

There was a huge gap in the lineup when senior captain Katelin Wahl sustained a season-ending shoulder injury. A number of girls stepped up to play new positions. Lower Katie Sullivan made a smooth transition to 2nd base and uppers Sarah Deneault and Tina Lipson patrolled the outfield using their powerful arms to throw out runners from all parts of the ballpark. The team came on strong the second half of the season, just missing the final round of the Big East Tourney in a heartbreaking loss in extra innings.

Senior Mariah Napolitano was a defensive force at 3rd base, and a big hitter at the plate finishing with a 460 batting average and a 760 slugging percentage. Senior Rosa Hayes consistently threw strikes and amassed 82 innings. Senior Annie Mitchell was a solid rock behind the plate. Karalyn Sommers contributed timely hits while Shortstop Lily White exhibited great range. Arielle Bean's stretches at first nipped many a runner.

Despite the ups and downs of the season, through the  leadership of captains Katelin Wahl and Lily White, the team maintained an unbreakable spirit and a unique and special camaraderie.

Captains-elect: Sarah Deneault and Arielle Bean
