Girls Track: 2009 Season Roundup

Aya Peters
Exeter holds lead in relay vs. Andover on May 23, 2009

Overall Record: 7-4

Where the boys team was a senior group, the girls team was more a tale of underclassmen. Katrina Coogan led the way with two particularly impressive performances. Ranked 2nd in New England behind two Andover freshman, Katrina used her brains and her competitiveness to win two NE titles in both the mile and half mile! Her time of 4:38 in the 1500 was among the top 14 in the U.S.

The team also relied on many Hall of Famers: Emma Broderick ran anything from the 400 through the 3000; Margaret Ayers in the 3000; Morgan Kelly in the 800; Kartinah Smith in the triple jump; Emily deJong and Elizabeth Prend both earned Hall of Fame honors in the 100.  There were some ninth grade girls who showed great promise: Lisa Scott who earned two spots on the Interschols team; Sylvia Okafor placed 4th in the triple jump; and Grace Weatherall broke the prep record in the 300 hurdles.

Captains-elect: Chi Chi Onyenso and Emma Broderick
