Step it Up Exeter
The students of Phillips Exeter Academy and the surrounding Exeter community organized a, "Step It Up 2007" environmental action campaign in down town Exeter. "Step It Up" is a nationwide movement to urge Congress to pass progressive climate change legislation. It was started by best-selling author Bill McKibben and had over 1,400 communities demonstrating on Saturday April 14.
Our event was planned for April 14th from 12:30-3:30 pm at Swasey Parkway, and was a great success with over 150 people in attendance.
Speakers Included:
- Jim Merkel, author of the book Radical Simplicity and sustainability coordinator at Dartmouth College, will speak about ecological footprinting and how individuals can change everyday behavior to make a difference
- Senator Maggie Hassan
- PEA's Student Environmental Action Committee will talk about the experience of building awareness of ecological issues and how students can make an effective difference to the environment
