Curricular Global Learning

From the mountains of Vermont to the Capitol steps, we offer programs focused on politics, sustainability and the environment.

Vermont
Vermont Mountain School

Live (and work) at The Mountain School, located on a 300-acre farm in Vershire, Vermont. As you care for the farm and the environment through daily chores, you’ll come to know the place deeply and understand its natural rhythms. Mountain School classrooms focus on collaboration and experiential learning, with a strong emphasis on getting outside. You’ll take five classes, all at the Honors or AP level, plus an outdoor education course. Forty-five students from around the country live on the farm. You’ll share a house with five-to-12 other students and faculty.

Washington DC

Join the staff of a U.S. senator or representative as a full-time intern and get an insider’s view of life on Capitol Hill. While your daily tasks may start out small, as you prove yourself you can gain access to mentors in the political world, attend hearings, handle correspondence, or even brief aides and elected officials on important issues. For more than 50 years, the Washington Intern Program has helped Exeter seniors see how the legislative branch works, while living and learning in the nation’s capital.

The Experiential Approach

Internships abound for excited learners. We’ve helped place students with the Academy of American Poets, the Conservation Law Foundation, The Paris Review, Stanford University and designer Nicole Miller. We also sponsor short-term trips, led by Exeter faculty, to places such as a Lakota community in South Dakota (for non sibi work), Arizona (hiking and exploration), Hawaii (leadership training), Nashville (for history) and Silicon Valley (to learn about the tech industry).
