Biography

Ms. Yuan grew up in Hunan, China. After completing her undergraduate education at Beijing Language and Culture University, she came to the United States to pursue her graduate studies. Before coming to Exeter in 2006, she worked as teaching assistant and instructor at the University of Pittsburgh and teaching fellow at Vassar College. Her passion for teaching grew with these experiences, which led to her determination to pursue it as a lifelong career.

In addition to teaching all levels of Chinese, Ms. Yuan also teaches French. She is adviser for Exeter's Chinese Students Organization and serves on the School Year Abroad Committee and the Admissions Committee. She has been a mentor for new teachers and adviser for the Asian Society. She was a recipient of the Academy’s Charles E. Ryberg Teaching Award in 2010.

Ms. Yuan lives in Amen Hall with her husband and two children. She loves reading, cooking and yoga, and since moving to New England, she has discovered downhill skiing, which she truly enjoys.
