Two of Exeter's Top Girls Hockey Players Make USA Hockey National Camp
Goaltender Lisa Marshall '10 from Powhatan, Virginia was selected as the only goalie from the Under 17 Southeastern District tryouts held recently in Atlanta, Georgia. Lisa will attend the USA Hockey National Camp, which brings together selected athletes from all regional districts, at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, New York, from June 25 to July 1. "I was really excited when I saw my name on the postings," says Lisa. "It will be a huge learning experience with a lot of hard work; but, I will be sure to have fun too."
Katie Sullivan '11, a forward from Bethesda, Maryland, was also a Southeastern District selection at the U15 age group. Her national camp will be held at the ESL Sports Centre in Rochester, New York from July 26 to August 1. Katie commented that her selection "feels like a big achievement. The competition keeps on getting better as you get older and at the U15 level, the players have a lot of speed and talent." She added, "What I expect most of all is for my skills to be challenged and I can improve from playing against players who are at my level and better."
According to the USA Hockey website, the goal of the camps is to attract the best players in their specific age group to the national program. The purpose of the camps is to identify, train, educate and evaluate the best athletes. During the week-long event, players are evaluated by USA Hockey's national scouting program, college and junior recruiters and professional scouts. The competition gives players the opportunity to measure themselves against others in the same age group, gain knowledge about their development and to be exposed to outstanding coaching.
