Conversations at the Library

Friday, September 15, 2006

4:30 - 5:30 p.m.

One of the many talks held in the Library.

Several times a year, the Library hosts late afternoon Conversations, generally held with an alumnus or alumna, to discuss issues of interest. To kick off the year-long celebration of 75 years of Harkness, the first conversation of the 2006-2007 year focused on teaching in the classroom at Exeter and what Harkness has meant to that experience.

The discussion was moderated by Rick Schubart '56, '79 (Hon.), Bates-Russell Distinguished Professor and chair of the 75th Harkness Anniversary committee. Participating in the conversation were alumni and alumnae who were currently teaching at the Academy. Representing more than a forty-year span of classes, participants represented a variety of disciplines: both Classical and Modern Languages, Drama, English, History, and Music. Topics covered ranged from being a student at the Harkness table to learning to teach using this pedagogy.
