The
Faculty Collection, like the Alumni/ae Collection, reflects the achievements of Exeter’s
artists and scholars and contains works by prominent historians, novelists,
poets, essayists, and playwrights. Among faculty authors are the works of
Henry W. Bragdon, whose A History of a Free Nation has remained a
standard American history textbook through several editions. Donald B.
Cole is the author of many history books, including Martin Van Buren
and the American Political System and A Jackson Man: Amos Kendall
and the Rise of American Democracy. Michael Golay has published non-fiction
works on the Civil War and the exploration of the American West. Among his
titles is A Ruined Land: The End of the Civil War.

Weeks and Adkins textbook
Mathematics instructors Arthur W. Weeks and Jackson B. Adkins produced numerous
text- books, including First Course in Algebra and Modern Advanced
Mathematics, both of which they co-authored. Richard G. Brown made an
impact on the teaching of high school mathematics with several textbooks
and is a co-author of Algebra and Trigonometry: Structure and Method.
John C. Hogg and Charles L. Bickel collaborated on science textbooks and
are known in particular for their ground-breaking Physics and Chemistry:
A Unified Approach.

Frederick Buechner, novelist and essayist, is represented by numerous
volumes, among them The Book of Bebb and The Eyes of the Heart: A
Memoir of the Lost and Found. Books and interviews with poet Dolores
Kendrick are featured, including The Women of Plums: Poems in the Voices
of Slave Women.
