BV Basketball: 2011 Season Roundup

In action vs. Belmont Hill on Jan. 26, 2011.

March 22, 2011

Overall Record: 9-10. Qualified for New England quarterfinals.
Versus Andover: Win 64-59

The boys team concluded a very solid effort in the regular season. Their play -- particularly down the stretch of the season --  earned them the right to compete in the Class A tournament.

After beginning the season with back-to-back losses, the team collected its first big win of the season at Milton Academy. Led by an outstanding defensive effort from Alex Levine, the team got the first of its several signature wins.

The Milton game began a stretch where the team won 4 out of its next 6 games. After a tough loss on the road to the then #1 team in country, Brewster Academy, Exeter bounced back with its 2nd huge win of the season by avenging an earlier loss to Tabor Academy. Riding this success, the team subsequently defeated Kimball Union Academy for their third signature win of the season. A team effort -- paced by 27 points from Ryan Kilcullen -- showed that the guys had the potential to still make a run for the playoffs.

After 4 tough losses heading into the final week of the season, the team faced an uphill battle to make the playoffs. With Kevin Ibasco and Peter Karalekas serving as captains for that final week, the team had a great week of practice. After a resounding victory at Thayer Academy, Exeter was poised and prepared to meet Andover. Though Exeter grabbed the lead early in the first half, it was a hard-fought game throughout that came down to the last minute of play. Through their hard work and dedication, Exeter pulled out an upset victory and was able to celebrate it with the fans who rushed the floor. This win personified the perseverance of the team throughout the ups and downs of the regular season and earned them the honor of competing in the playoffs.

The coaching staff would like to extend a special thanks to Peter Karalekas, Kevin Ibasco, Blake Chasen, and Trevor Marrero for their consistent dedication in practice and commitment to a team-first philosophy that was vital in getting the team to the playoffs.
