Exeter, NH (February 16, 2007)—In an effort to raise awareness of the perennial problem of world hunger, Phillips Exeter Academy will host the second Empty Bowls Project on Saturday, February 24. The student fundraiser will sell handmade ceramic bowls, crafted by a little more than 100 students. This event is closed to the public.
Close to 300 colorful and stylized bowls will be on sale for $5- $20, with a choice of complementary soup. Donations will also be welcomed. Bowls will also be on sale in the Lamont Art Gallery building until March 1. Most of the bowls were made earlier this term by ceramics class students. The goal is to hold this fundraiser twice a year. The initial Empty Bowl event was held last October, during Parents’ Weekend. This term’s project is supported by the Phillips Exeter Academy Dining Services staff.
All proceeds will go to Cross Roads House, a local homeless shelter in Portsmouth, NH, where PEA students volunteer for community service. For more information, contact art instructor Vivian M.
