Exeter, NH (December 19, 2007)—On Tuesday, January 8, at 7:00 p.m., Phillips Exeter Academy’s Music department will host Truim, a trio of sopranos who dedicate themselves to the exploration and performance of music of three equal voices. The concert will be held inside Phillips Church, located on the corner of Tan Lane and Front Street. The event is free and open to the public.
The evening’s performance, “Brief is life but love is long,” is a program which explores love’s triumphs, travails and transcendence spans 600 years. From love lost, to love’s torment, to love which knows no bounds, each selection offers lush and luminous sounds, giving voice to the power of that which powers the soul of mankind.
Truim’s repertoire encompasses many periods and styles, including works of Dunstable, Dufay, Rossi, Luzzaschi, Mendelsohn, Holst, Schumann and Bernstein. The sopranos are Gail Abbey, Margaret Johnson and Susan Trout, who began singing together as members of Emmanuel Music’s soprano section. In 1997, they formed Trium, and since have premiered in Martin Boykan’s Three Songs from Shakespeare. In 2006, the group was featured in Emmanuel Music’s Chamber Music Series, in a program of Schumann trios. Truim’s first CD, Songs of Three, has received high praise.
