Action in the Cage against Governor's on Jan. 19, 2011

Action vs. Governors on Jan. 19, 2011

March 22, 2011

Overall Record: Boys 4-0; Girls: 4-0
Versus Andover: Boys 52.5-49.5; Girls: 65-30

Fantastic leadership from the boys captains Martin Manser, Ajun Nukal and Jabari Johnson and girls captains Hannah Najar, Ashley Ifeadike and Katrina Coogan created a season filled with huge improvements for both teams.

Sam Gray broke a 32 year-old prep mile record running 4:43.

Hall of Fame performances were turned in by a great group of athletes:

  • Haley Baker '13 HJ/LJ and hurdles
  • Ashley Ifeadike '11 in the dash
  • Lisa Scott '12 in the dash
  • Grace Weatherall '12 hurdles
  • Arjun Nukal '11 mile
  • Katrina Coogan '11 600, 1000, mile
  • Jabari Johnson '12 in 300

New school and Exeter-Andover records were broken by Katrina Coogan in the mile and thousand and Ashley Ifeadike in the dash.

Katrina earned particular individual honors by being invited to two Nationally profiled meets. She competed at the Boston Indoor Games where she ran a 4:52 mile. Katrina also earned a Golden ticket to the Brooks Invitational in Seattle.

These individual performances led the way to huge team wins against Andover. All 3 divisions won (boys varsity, boys JV and girls varsity). Worth mentioning is the fact that the boys varsity meet was virtually tied going into the last event. The mile relay team of Kevin Jung, prep Luke Gray, Zach Drach and Jabari Johnson had the whole meet resting on their shoulders and each one stepped up to perform under pressure.

The season will conclude with 4 athletes having qualified for Nationals in New York. Sam Gray qualified for the freshman mile and Luke Gray in the freshman 400m. Ashley Ifeadike qualified for the open 60m dash and Katrina Coogan will run the open mile.
