"What's My Day Like?" Welcomes a New Student, Tony '14
Tony is the latest addition to the "What's my day like?" feature
April 4, 2011
Hear from Tony, a prep and avid athlete, whose "What's My Day Like?" feature highlights classes, fun free time and sports.
"I find the Harkness style of teaching more effective," says Tony as he compares his first year at Exeter to previous school experiences. "I'm learning more than I ever learned in my whole life. Not just about classes, but about life, values and choices."
Join Tony as he starts his day with Math, then continues on to Physics where he enjoys the "cool" labs. "The atmosphere here is structured for learning," he says. "The community, the academics, the teachers and the students are all top-notch. We're surrounded by good resources."
You can see Tony in his dorm room with friends, and get some vicarious fun as Tony walks his assistant soccer coach's dog. Then he's on to lunch, Spanish and Printmaking, where he enjoys his teacher's approach to art and life. "She always encourages us to think outside the box, to think about odd combinations. She says, 'Sometimes a mistake can lead to the biggest success.' She's fun to be around – seems more like a friend than a teacher. She's always helping you, laughing with you."
Tony's day ends with lots of sports. This prep is on the varsity soccer team, where he's getting goalie training, and plays pickup basketball to prepare for the upcoming basketball season. "All the older guys have taken me under their wing," says Tony of his soccer teammates. "I've had a couple of prep moments when I had to pick up the cones because I'm the youngest one on the team, but it has all been fun and fair."
