Pianist Gabriel Chodos to Perform at PEA

Exeter, NH (November 5, 2009)—On Tuesday, November 10, 7:00 p.m., Phillips Exeter Academy will present a concert by international pianist Gabriel Chodos, who will perform in a guest artist recital in Phillips Church, located on the corner of Front Street and Tan Lane. The concert is free and open to the public.
Chodos has performed throughout the United States, Europe, Israel and Japan. He has been a soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Aspen Chamber Symphony, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra of Holland, and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. A winner of the Concert Artists Guild competition in New York, Chodos received a Fulbright Scholarship, Martha Baird Rockefeller grants, and a Solo Recitalist grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. He has performed at the 92nd Street Y, Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Hall, Symphony Hall and the Library of Congress. In recent years, Chodos' performances of works by Schubert, Chopin and Brahms have been broadcast nationwide by National Public Radio.
He has given master classes throughout the world, including the Guildhall School of Music in London, the Hochschule für Musik in Leipzig and the Kunitachi School of Music in Tokyo. Chodos is a frequent guest artist and teacher at the Aspen Music Festival, the Chautauqua Music Festival and the Rutgers Summerfest.
Chodos earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy, a master's degree in music from UCLA, and a diploma in piano from the Akademie für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna. His principal teacher was Aube Tzerko, a student of Schnabel. Chodos is a member of the artist faculty of the New England Conservatory in Boston, MA.
This year's performance will include Chopin 24 Preludes, Opus 28, and Beethoven Sonata in C minor, Opus 111. The evening's program includes:
