Phillips Exeter Academy Students Named 2012 National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists

Exeter, NH (September 30, 2011)—Thirty-three seniors from Phillips Exeter Academy have been named semi-finalists in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program.

This year's Merit Scholar semi-finalists are: Caitlin E. Andrews, of West Newbury, MA; Ravi A. Bajaj, of Florence, SC; Jonathon Cai, of Hicksville, NY; Geoffrey Cheng, of Menasha, WI; Alan W. Dong, of Suwanee, GA; Pierre S. du Pont, of Tarrytown, NY; Dashiel N. Elhauge, of Newton, MA; Mihail Eric, of Van Nuys, CA; Ana Rose W. Glidden, of Exeter, NH; Kirk K. Huang, of La Habra, CA; Penny Hung, of Livingston, NJ; Rivka B. Hyland, of Philadelphia, PA; JeeHae Kang, of Exeter, NH; Harini D. More than 1.5 million students from over 22,000 high schools in the United States entered the competition in 2010 with their Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) scores. This fall, the highest-scoring participants were named semifinalists in the 57th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Approximately 16,000 semifinalists were selected to advance to the finalist level and some 8,300 will be awarded the title of 'Merit Scholar', and will share more than $34 million in college scholarships.
