New Faculty Appointments Announced

Dean of Faculty Kathleen Curwen P’99, P’03 announced the appointment of the following four faculty members to endowed teaching positions earlier this year.
        The new Arthur A. Seeligson ’13 Professor in Business, Economics and History is Margaret “Meg” Foley. Foley earned both her B.A. and M.A.T. from Boston University. Originally from St. Paul, MN, she joined the Exeter faculty in 1999 and teaches history, senior economics electives, and serves as assistant coach to the cycling team. In 2002, she received the Academy’s Charles E.Ryberg Award; in 2005, she was named the Raymond W.Ellis Instructor.She is dorm head of Cilley Hall, where she lives with her husband, science instructor Erik Janicki, and their daughter.
         Lark Hammond has been named the Thomas S. and Elinor B. Lamont Professor in English. Hammond, who earned her B.A. from Bates College and M.A. from the University of Virginia, joined the Exeter English department in 1988 and was resident faculty in Cilley Hall. She is a past recipient of both the Radford Fellowship and the Brown Award, and she took part in the 2005 faculty study tour to China and the English’s department’s 2007 study trip to Dublin.
        Chemistry instructor Alison Hobbie has been appointed the Alfred H. Hayes ’25 and JeanM. HayesTeaching Instructor in Science. Hobbie earned her B.A. fromWellesley College and her M.S. from the University of Virginia. She joined the Exeter faculty in 2001, and her courses include “Chemistry of theEnvironment,” an elective she designed and introduced in 2006. Hobbie has coached both girls JV volleyball and crew. She is dorm head of Langdell Hall, where she lives with her husband, Erik, and their two daughters.
        Rebecca “Becky” Moore P’03, P’05, P’08 has been appointed the Woodbridge Odlin Professor, the Academy’s oldest endowed teaching position, first awarded in 1876. Moore earned her B.A. and M.Ed. from Harvard University, and taught at Choate Rosemary Hall and the Brooks School before joining the Exeter English department in 1990. Since 2006, she has served as the department’s chair. She is a past recipient of both the Dormitory Adviser Award and the Brown Award. She is one of the cofounders of the Exeter Humanities Institute, a summer teaching conference for English and history teachers that explores discussion-based education. She coaches girls varsity crew, and is a past head of McConnell Hall.
