Exeter/Andover Games Preview and Schedule, Fall 2012

Big win vs. Deerfield on Oct. 20, 2012

November 8, 2012

November 10 will mark the 131st annual football match between Exeter and Andover, pitting not only the two schools' varsity football teams against one another, but also the field hockey, volleyball and soccer teams. The action is on Andover's campus this year, with games starting at 11:00 a.m. and football kicking off at 2:00 p.m. The electricity builds across campus as the week progresses, with multiple events on the preceding Friday: spirit assembly, Snake Dance from dorm to dorm, and the annual bonfire and pep rally at Phelps Stadium.

For aquatic fans, Exeter is also hosting the water polo Interschols on November 10 starting at 10:00 a.m., with Exeter hoping for a strong performance from their own team.

Contributing to the competitive fever, most JV teams (football, field hockey, soccer and volleyball) will take on their Andover counterparts on the Exeter campus on November 7.

Game Previews and Schedule
At Phillips Academy, Andover, MA, Saturday November 10
11:00:  V Field Hockey
Exeter's solid 8-5-2 record with several close losses through the season means this team is tough and capable. Andover has a similar record of 7-4-3. Against the same opponent, PEA lost 2-0 against a strong Deerfield team, while Andover came away from their Deerfield match with a tie. Look for a close and hard-fought game between 2 evenly matched teams.
11:30: GV Soccer
PEA's 8-7-1 record is not as strong as the team would like, but they can draw encouragement from having won 4 of their last 5 games. Andover currently has a mixed record of 5-6-3 as of November 2. The 2 teams look to be evenly matched.
12:00: V Volleyball
PEA has struggled to maintain a consistently high level of play over the course of the season as shown by their 7-10 record, with losses in 7 of their last 10 games. Andover's squad is strong, deep and powerful, sporting an outstanding 13-0 record. PEA will need to play their best to compete against Andover.
1:30:  BV Soccer
PEA has been a strong and consistent team all season and enters their final week with an impressive 14-1-1 record. Of their total of 16 games, only 1 team has scored more than a single goal against PEA, which has logged a shutout in 5 of their last 6 games. Andover has a 9-4-2 record as of November 3, but has lost their last 3 games. This promises to be an exciting, hard-fought game between 2 talented squads.
2:00:  V Football
PEA is ranked the No. 1 team in the state in their prep school division and the No. 4 team overall. They've relied on a strong running game complemented by an effective passing game on their way to an undefeated 7-0 record. Andover has struggled this season and enters the Exeter/Andover game with a 2-4 record. In their favor is a confidence-building 31-0 win against Worcester Academy on November 3. PEA is the more talented team and is favored against their perennial rival.

Interschols Events, November 10
10:00:  BV Water Polo at Phillips Exeter Academy. (Check the Athletic Calendar for specific game times and competing teams.)
The PEA team enters the Interschols with a commanding record and looks to challenge for the New England championship with Brunswick School, Deerfield Academy and Choate Rosemary Hall being the main competition.

Cross-Country at Loomis Chaffee:
BV: 1:30
This is a powerful squad whose 5-0 record reflects their consistency and speed. Having already soundly beaten Andover 18-41 this past weekend, they are primed for a strong showing at Interschols.
GV: 2:15
This past weekend's loss to Andover 44-19 at PEA was disappointing for the team. They now take their 2-3 record to Interschols with a focus on running strong races against their competition.
BJV: 3:00
15-48 win versus Andover on November 3; 4-0 overall record.
GJV: 3:45
