Exeter Hosts Winter Band Concert

Exeter, NH (March 6, 2009)—On Sunday, March 8, 2009, at 4 p.m., the Phillips Exeter Academy Music Department will present its annual Winter Band Concert at Phillips Church, located on the corner of Tan Lane and Front Street. The concert is free and open to the public.
Three groups of student musicians will perform, including the Phillips Exeter Academy Percussion Ensemble, conducted by Gail Volk; the Phillips Exeter Academy Stage Band, directed by Charlie Jennison; and the Phillips Exeter Academy Concert Band, conducted by Tim Miles.
The Percussion Ensemble, with 13 student members, will perform arrangements of “Caribbean Sea,” by John Russell; “Evening News,” by Chris Brooks; and “Whole-Tone Piece (Movements II, I) by Murray Houllif.
The 19-member, eight-piece Stage Band will perform Count Basie’s “Jumpin’ At the Woodside,” arranged by Paul Cook, with student performers Steve Im ’10, trumpet and John Gearheart ’09, alto saxophone; “On Green Dolphin Street,” by Bronislau Kaper, arranged by Victor Lopez, with Ved Rajkumar ’11, tenor saxophone and Gearheart, alto saxophone; “Crazy Rhythm,” by Joseph Meyer and Roger Kahn, arranged by Mike Lewis; and “Caribbean Dance,” by Victor Lopez.
The Concert Band, complete with a 37-member, 12-piece ensemble, will perform “Digital Prisms,” by Larry Clark and “Semper Fidelis,” by John Philip Sousa.
