Violinist Paul MacDowell and Pianist Arlene Kies to Perform at Faculty Recital

Exeter, NH (January 14, 2009)¾Phillips Exeter Academy music instructor and violinist Paul MacDowell will perform in concert with pianist Arlene Kies inside Phillips Church, located on the corner of Tan Lane and Front Street, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2009. The event is free and open to the public.
MacDowell and Kies will perform works by Beethoven, Franck, Mozart and Sarasate. An adjunct music faculty member at the Academy since 1991, MacDowell earned a master’s in Violin Performance from Boston University. He has performed with a variety of musical groups throughout New England, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Aerosmith. Currently, MacDowell is a member of the Boston Ballet Orchestra, and has appeared with the Boston Pops, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Opera. He has also been active as a recitalist and chamber music performer throughout New England.
Kies is currently on the faculty of the University of New Hampshire, and has taught at Tufts University and Phillips Exeter Academy. A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, she was the recipient of the Frye Fellowship, a Fulbright Fellowship, and a New Hampshire State Council of the Arts Fellowship. Kies has performed with the New Hampshire Philharmonic, the DePasquale String Quartet, and the Granite State Symphony Orchestra.
