Exeter, NH (March 13, 2006) – From Monday, April 3 to Saturday, May 20, 2006, the Lamont Gallery at Phillips Exeter Academy will present "Inside/Out" an exhibition of paintings and drawings by Sean Beavers. An opening reception will be held on Friday, April 7, 6:30-8 p.m. at the Lamont Gallery. A gallery talk will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2006 10 a.m. The Lamont Gallery is located in the Frederick R. Mayer Art Center on Tan Lane. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
Although Beavers works in a variety of media, his focus is on oil painting and drawing, with subjects varying from portraits, to still lifes to landscapes. Beavers says, "Painting forces me to study and understand a thing or an idea. The beauty of everyday objects is slowly starting to be revealed to me. I've realized that the ordinary can be quite extraordinary. The subjects of my paintings usually represent something other than the objects themselves, like dreams, desires, frustrations, spirit, emotions. Everything is fleeting, in a state of change. I think that's part of the reason that I paint, to somehow delay that process, to hold on a little bit longer to a moment or thing that will never exist again." Beavers now resides in York, Maine. He relocated to New England eight years ago after falling in love with the environment on the New Hampshire and Maine seacoast, which he says brings his life and art closer to nature. Trained at the School of Visual Arts in New York, Beavers has had numerous exhibits in New England, and in Florida, New York and London. He teaches at the New Hampshire Institute of Art, The University of New Hampshire and Sanctuary Arts in Maine.
