A Discussion and Workshop with Andrew Ford: Composer, Writer and Broadcaster

Exeter, NH (April 4, 2006) – On Friday, April 14, at 7:00 p.m., Phillips Exeter Academy’s music department will present a discussion and workshop with composer, writer and broadcaster Andrew Ford, and Academy music faculty and student musicians as part of the Gilbert Concert Series. The discussion and workshop will be held inside Powell Hall, located in the Forrestal-Bowld Music Center on Tan Lane in Exeter, NH. Refreshments will be served following the workshop. This event is free and open to the public.
Ford is from Australia and has won awards for his writing, broadcasts and compositions, including the prestigious Paul Lowin Prize for his song cycle, Learning to Howl. His music has been played in more than 40 countries and featured at international festivals, from Houston to Salzburg to Seoul. For many years, Ford served on the faculty of the University of Wollongong, teaching composition and lecturing on a variety of musical genres including Renaissance polyphony and punk rock.
For the past decade, Ford has presented The Music Show each Saturday morning on ABC Radio National. He has interviewed musicians from every musical genre including Pierre Boulez, Lou Reed, Arlo Guthrie, Laurie Anderson and Sir Bob Geldof, and has written three acclaimed radio series. Ford has also written widely on music and has published five books, ranging from a biography of Van Morrison to a collection of essays on individual classical composers.
