Kyle Thompson Named 2006-2007 George Bennett Fellow at Phillips Exeter Academy

Exeter, NH (September 26, 2006)—Kyle Thompson has been named the 2006 – 2007 George Bennett Fellow at Phillips Exeter Academy. A native of Kentucky, Thompson studied English at the University of Kentucky and earned an M.F.A. in creative writing and poetry in 2000 from the University of Virginia. While there, he was awarded the Hoyns Fellowship in Poetry and served as the university’s New Dominion Reading Series Coordinator.

He taught English at the Illinois Institute of Art in 2001, and creative writing at the University of Louisville from 2002 until this past spring. While there, he was named an Emerging Writer in the Millenial Gathering of the Writers of the New South, a writers’ conference consisting of authors of poems, short stories and novels that articulate the common racial, cultural and environmental legacies experienced as Southerners.

Thompson is also an Axton Fellow of Poetry at the University of Louisville. His poetry has appeared in such publications as AGNI, Georgia Review, Green Mountains Review, Hotel Amerika, Indiana Review, Seneca Review, Antioch Review, Quarterly West, and as a distinguished entry in the 2005 Campbell Corner Poetry Prize. Thompson has also written several manuscripts and currently is working on a variety of projects.
