Bruce Lawrence '58 Speaks on Islam as Part of the Harkness 75th Anniversary Celebration

Bruce Lawrence ’58, the Marcus Humanities Professor of Religion at Duke University, will be the second Harkness Fellow to speak in the year-long celebration of the 75th anniversary of Harkness teaching at the Exeter. He will present his talk "Islam in the Public Square: Muslims in Search of the Common Good" on Friday, September 29, at 7:00 p.m. in Assembly Hall on Front Street in Exeter. The event is free and open to the public.
Lawrence is author of 12 books (including New Faiths, Old Fears: Muslims & Other Asian Immigrants in American Religious Life) and an authority on the history and development of Islam and its perceptions in the West. During his visit, Professor Lawrence will also work with faculty in the religion and history departments, visit classes and speak at students at assembly.
