Assemby Hall, second floor of the Academy Building

Exeter, NH (October 26, 2006)—On Sunday, November 5, 2006, the Exeter Student Service Organization (ESSO) and the Phillips Exeter Academy’s sustainability effort will host a special screening of “An Inconvenient Truth,” a film portraying former Vice President Al Gore and his one-man “traveling global warming show,” addressing what he calls our “planetary emergency.” The film will be shown at 3 p.m. inside the Assembly Hall, located on the second floor of the Academy Building on Front Street in Exeter. The event is free and open to the public.

Interspersed with environmental facts and future predictions, the film illustrates Gore’s personal journey to explain the dire environmental situation. From an idealistic college student, who first witnessed a massive environmental crisis looming; to a young senator facing a family tragedy that changed his perspective; to the man who has taken up the cause of making the world aware of the role they can serve in saving the planet.

“Our goal for this event is to bring people together to make them aware of the issue of global warming and how imminent it is for all of us. Vice President Gore puts this issue into layman’s terms so that everyone can understand such complex issues. Our hope is that people will leave this movie having a better understanding of what global warming is, what causes it, and how an individual’s actions affect it. We want the viewers to make positive changes in their daily lives that will slow down the effects of global warming,” says Phillips Exeter Academy’s Sustainability Coordinator, Jennifer Wilhelm.

Representatives from Carbon Coalition, a non-partisan coalition of citizens, scientists, businesses, students, communities and organizations who advocate for a national energy policy that protects the environment from global warming caused by carbon pollution, and the campus’ Sustainability Effort members will lead a discussion with the audience following the film.
