Exeter vs. Andover: The Rivalry Continues

Exeter wallops Loomis, 40 -10

This weekend is a double whammy – the meet up of arch-rivals Exeter and Andover, and the Exeter-hosted Interschols.

It's been an almost halcyon year for football. The varsity team has won all but one – yes, one – game. The Phelps Stadium, with its new turf field, has garnered accolades from players and coaches alike. And, in a winning tribute to the 21st century, the JV football team added two girl players: Tori, a lower, and Kaya, a prep. Tori kicked her way to stardom in Exeter's winning October 14th match-off against Northfield Mount Hermon, when she was the first girl ever to score a point for Exeter football.

This week pits Exeter/Andover varsity Saturday, November 11th on Andover's home ground while the two schools’ JV teams play at Exeter on Wednesday, November 8th. The boys and girls cross country and boys water polo Interschol events take place at Exeter on Saturday, November 11th. Here's a roundup of the teams and when they play:

VARSITY at ANDOVER, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 11

11:00 Girls Varsity Soccer
Girls varsity soccer has had a strong season, with stellar performances in the second half of games. The team has exceptional players, including a senior who broke the single season scoring record last Saturday.  

11:30 Varsity Field Hockey
A sturdy team that commands the field, varsity field hockey is looking forward to a strong, consistent game, seen as the key to previous successes such as those against Thayer and NMH.

12:00 Varsity Volleyball
The team is poised to beat Andover, after their loss to Andover on October 18.
 
1:00 Boys Varsity Soccer

2:00 Varsity Football
This team has had several stunning wins -- first against Choate, then Loomis and then Northfield Mount Hermon. Their single loss, to Deerfield, is way behind them.

INTERSCHOLS AT EXETER, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 11

The team has taken 16 of 19 matches this season, and with a record of winning all but one New England Championship since 1991, enters the Interschols from a position of strength.

Exeter boys have taken the New England Championships for the last three years. With just one defeat this season, the team is strong and running fast.

Girls cross country, with five recent New England championship wins, is poised for yet another, with only two defeats this season.
