7 p.m.
Phillips Church
The Jim Howe Trio, Ryan Parker, piano, Les Harris, drums, Jim Howe, bass, with Charlie Jennison, saxophone
This performance by the Jim Howe Trio, with Charlie Jennison, will celebrate the life and music of Herb Pomeroy, trumpet player and teacher, who passed away this summer at the age of 77. Mr. Pomeroy's big band was a Boston institution, and he recorded with jazz greats Charlie Parker, Lionel Hampton and Duke Ellington. He was a beloved teacher at the Berklee College of Music where he taught for over 40 years and was known by many as "Mr. Berklee." His talent as a musician was only surpassed by tremendous gifts as a teacher. "As a performer, I learned more from him than anyone else. He was my dear friend," explains Jim Howe. Mr. Pomeroy performed several times at Exeter over the years with jazz teacher Tommy Gallant and was a guest of the Jim Howe Trio in the Tommy Gallant Memorial Concert several years ago. His passion and appreciation for jazz music are an inspiration to all who had the honor of knowing him.
