"Prepare for Glory!" Big Games Tomorrow

The Red Bandits, joined by the school mascot, get everyone excited at the pep rally

Today's pep rally set the stage for the weekend's big games against Andover. With music from the pep band, dancing by Precision and Imani, hilarity from the Red Bandits, and a rousing video, the entire student body rose up with cheers in anticipation of the weekend's games.

The video – a student-directed and performed tour de force – profiled all the teams that will perform this weekend. Their extraordinary feats took center stage, as Reverend Thompson's voiceover (and what a baritone!) highlighted their skills. The Exeter athletes who will compete this weekend "are descended from Hercules himself," he boomed. As team after team showed phenomenal strength and perception – a runner who carries a fallen teammate on his shoulder and keeps on running, a soccer team that powers the ball with unrivalled gymnastics moves, and the girls volleyball team that knows exactly how to make a winning serve (even when the Math Club tries to get involved) – the students hollered enthusiastically. The video culminated with "We Are the Champions" and the Rev's voice exhorting: "Prepare for Glory!"

Going into the game with five wins and two losses for the season, the varsity football players are ready to meet their archrivals. Coach Glennon gave his team a hard-earned day off from practice as they get ready for Andover. Instead, the boys applied their teamwork skills to cleaning up around campus in preparation for the anticipated visitors. Ebenezer '09 thought it was a good way to help out the Facilities Management crew, who are busy this time of year. "This is a way for us to thank them for all the work they do on our athletic facilities. It's also a way for us to give something back to the school community."

With the pep rally a smashing success, tonight's bonfire is the next rally point. Enthusiastic about their role in homecoming, the school's student musicians are making their presence felt. Iriane '10 thinks the Pep Band will have a wonderful debut tomorrow. "The group chemistry is great and we all really enjoy the pieces we'll be playing," she explains. The band will join a quartet of senior girls, all singers in Concert Choir, chosen by audition last week to sing the National Anthem as a kickoff to the festivities. "I'm very excited about singing," says Kasey. "We've been practicing as much as possible to get it down." Carol, a fellow singer, agrees, "All four of us are very excited and honored to perform at such an important event."
