Exeter's Football Team Fights Valiantly
November 10, 2007
Exeter on the attack
When this year's teams stepped on to the field today, they carried 129 years of history on their shoulders, with a record of 66 wins for Andover, 49 wins for Exeter, and 10 ties. Today's hard-fought loss of 24 - 14 is now in the record books. Despite a great TD reception by Malcolm '08, wide receiver, and some explosive running by Eric '08, running back, Andover walked off the field with the victory.

It's hard to exaggerate the importance of this game to the athletes who took to the field today. For Eric '08, a co-captain on the football team, it was the highlight of his athletic career. "For me, this is the most important athletic contest that I have. Since I began at Exeter, I've looked forward to the fall of my senior year more than anything else simply because of the Exeter/Andover football game."
With a record of 5 wins and 2 losses, PEA had reason to be optimistic. This year's team was well-balanced, with an exceptional defense noteworthy for its big front line. The offense was versatile with capable runners, a talented quarterback, and agile receivers. Andover, meanwhile brought its record of 6 wins and 1 loss to the field, having beaten Choate – a team that defeated Exeter by a score of 14-10.
Despite the loss by Exeter, all the spectators were treated to a hard-fought competitive match, whose history brought out the best in all the athletes on the field. Athletic Director and former football coach Rob Morris saw the teams as "two rivals playing at their peak." He draws on his long experience in high school athletics to describe the game. "Today was a wonderful example of what is truly good about sport and so special and unforgettable about high school athletics. Great play, beautiful crisp Fall weather, alumni and alumnae coming in from all over the country, cheering, bands, spirit. It really is an atmosphere that brings out the best in everyone. I couldn't be prouder of our student body."
Of course, other teams were also competing against their Andover counterparts. Here is a summary of those games:
