The awards committee of the Exeter trustees seeks nominations on a rolling basis for the Founder's Day Awards and the John Phillips Award, two of the Academy's highest alumni/ae honors.

The Founder's Day Award is given to an alumnus, alumna, faculty emeritus or emerita, retired staff member, parent, or friend who has demonstrated exceptional service to the Academy. The service must be extraordinary, beyond what is regularly contributed by others doing similar service, and the nominee must still be living at the time of nomination. Duration of service may be of any length, but should perhaps be of five years or more. The recipient may receive the award only once and should not have previously received the John Phillips Award.

The John Phillips Award
is given to an alumnus or alumna of the Academy, still living at the time of nomination, whose life demonstrates John Phillips' ideal of goodness and knowledge united in noble character and usefulness to mankind. The nominee should have contributed significantly to the welfare of community, country, or humanity, beyond any volunteer service to the Academy.

Nomination letters should document with specifics how the nominee meets each award criteria. Supporting documents, news articles, or other material are particularly helpful for the John Phillips Award. Nomination letters should be addressed to Harold Brown, director of alumni/ae affairs, Phillips Exeter Academy, 20 Main Street, Exeter, NH, 03833.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
John W. "Chape" Chapin '48
I began to volunteer for Exeter after our 45th reunion. While on campus, we were discussing the next reunion, and I realized I could use my 40 years of computer experience to help create the class web page, and to help boost attendance for the 50th reunion through email. We used these tools to get organized and to exchange ideas. Some of the "conversations" still continue, two years later, on the class web site. It's a great way to stay in touch, and I usually send out a class note through email every month or so.

Perhaps I'm goaded by intellectual curiosity, but on every visit to Exeter I always come back with new information and a renewed outlook on life. The Academy has a unique approach to everything, and we have all learned from it. The school and our class draw from each other in important ways, and I'm always proud to say I went to Exeter. - Chape Chapin '48
