English Teacher Publishes Poetry and Essays
Todd Hearon, Instructor in the English Department, has recently published poems and essays in a wide variety of print and online publications:
Rosanna Warren, in a Ploughshares review, says Hearon's work "shows the quiet virtues for which he is becoming known as a poet. It has subtle imagery (the wasp, transposed into the ghostly shapes of the ancestors; the loaves of phantom bread); it has narrative momentum without being tediously anecdotal; most of all, it is alive in its various iambic rhythms…" Read the full review…
In addition to his poetry, Hearon writes plays, translations and reviews. He has published previously in The New Republic, The Southern Review, Ploughshares, Literary Imagination, Partisan Review, Harvard Review, Bostonia, Poetry Ireland Review, Yankee, Memorious 2, and Southern Humanities Review. His essays have appeared in various collections and anthologies.
Hearon started the Lamont Younger Poets Prize, which recognizes works of exceptional promise written by Exeter juniors and lowers. The third annual Lamont Younger Poets reading will be held on Tuesday, April 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the Lamont Room, on the fourth floor of the Class of 1945 Library.
