Religious

Catholic Exonians
The goals of this group are to provide support for Catholic students on campus and to educate non-Catholics about our faith through our own understanding. Biweekly meetings take the form of discussion groups, sometimes with guest speakers. The church of St. Michael parish in the town of Exeter is just a block from campus, and Academy students are welcome at all parish activities. Adviser: Mr. Mahoney

Christian Fellowship
Exeter's Christian Fellowship meets Friday evenings at 6:30 p.m. in the Seminar Room, which is on the fourth floor of the library, for a time of fellowship and Bible study. The purpose of our meetings is twofold: to give students a time and place where they can be with one another, encourage one another, and have fun together away from the daily stresses of Exeter life; and to provide a nurturing environment that will enable questioning minds to explore Christianity and challenge committed Christians to grow further in their commitment to and relationship with Jesus Christ. All are welcome. Adviser: Reverend Thompson

Exeter Jewish Community
The Exeter Jewish Community supports Jewish life on campus. We celebrate holidays (including on-campus services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur) and present school-wide events that raise awareness about Jewish culture and religion. In the 2001-2002 school year, The EJC hosted the first annual Jewbilee: A Celebration of Jewish Life at New England Boarding Schools, which brought together students from eleven boarding schools. The EJC will continue to play a major role in this event in the future, even as it rotates from Exeter to other participating school campuses. The EJC works closely with the Middle Eastern Society and the Islamic Society to educate the community and to fundraise for organizations that foster coexistence among Palestinians and Israelis. We meet every Friday for Shabbat dinner. All are welcome. Adviser: Reverend Thompson

Exeter Praise Team
Exeter praise team works in conjunction with both Phillips Church and the Christian Fellowship. The group consists of vocalists and instrumentalists, all united in one voice to bring praise to Jesus Christ. "PT" provides a source of contemporary praise to everyone at Phillips Exeter Academy. Exeter Praise Team's mission is to further the faiths of Christians on campus and bring others to Christ. Adviser: Reverend Thompson

Hindu Society
The Hindu Society hopes to provide an opportunity for Hindu students to learn more about their religion and to educate the community about Hinduism. Regular meetings provide cultural support for students. Trips to the Boston area provide opportunity for members to benefit from the expertise of respected Hindu leaders. A clear goal of the society is to heighten awareness of Hinduism on campus by calling attention to festival and fast days such as Diwali and Shivaratri. Meetings and activities of the Hindu Society are open to all students. Adviser: Reverend Thompson

Interfaith Group
We are a group of students and faculty who come from all different walks of life (Agnostic, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim) and we want to talk about different religious/spiritual traditions and how those affect faith or a lack of faith, public discourse or a lack of public discourse, politics, cultural identities, and our ability to talk with each other. We are curious and we want to learn about each other’s approaches to living. Adviser: Ms. Hamilton

Muslim Student Association
The Muslim Student Association seeks to serve the special needs of the Muslim community at Exeter. Friday Prayers and Eid Prayers are observed regularly, and arrangements are made for fasting during Ramadan. The society aims to inform the Exeter community about the religion of Islam, and to promote correct understanding of Islamic concepts. Efforts for accomplishing these goals may include bringing Assembly speakers or holding interfaith discussions. We also try to have Middle Eastern dinners as frequently as possible, and try to meet Muslims for other schools around New England. Activities sponsored by the Islamic Society are open to people of all beliefs. Advisers: Ms. Qari.
