Health & Wellness
L.E.A.D.
Leaders at Exeter Abstaining from Drugs is a service organization whose mission is to recognize and support those many students on campus who have made the decision to be alcohol and drug free. Our organization meets regularly to discuss issues related to alcohol and other drug use, to plan and implement awareness programs both on campus and in the community at large, and to design social events where the focus is fun without alcohol and drugs. Most importantly of all, our members are role models thriving at Exeter alcohol and drug free. Adviser: Mr. Morris
Student Health Advisory Board
The Student Health Advisory Board was established to act as a liaison between the Lamont Health and Wellness Center and the student body. The goals are to advocate for a student friendly environment and to increase clarity and communication between the Lamont Health and Wellness Center and students. It is also a forum for students to discuss issues related to health services and to promote awareness of health issues amongst their peers through various media and events. The membership includes representation from Student Council, Afro Latino, Asian Society, GSA, day students, Student Listeners, L.E.A.D., and the Angels. However, we welcome and encourage further participation. Advisers: Ms. Pappas and Mrs. O'Day
Student Listeners
Student Listeners are uppers and seniors who have been selected by their peers and faculty to serve as listeners to both dorm and day students. It can be difficult adjusting to life at PEA or you may be coping with a personal issue. Talking with someone your own age can make it easier.
Student Listeners are trained in active listening and attend weekly workshops on issues relevant to teenagers and life at PEA. Many of the Student Listeners are also designated as International Listeners and are designated with an asterisk. These are students who have lived in foreign countries, often speak other languages, and are especially sensitive to the issues that arise from acclimating to other cultures. Anyone who would like to talk to a Listener can do so by leaving them a voicemail message, sending them a note, or contacting them directly. Conversations are private and informal. They are held in confidence unless a person's life or health is threatened.
Listeners use the Academy's counselors and the Health Center for backup in case of emergency or for anonymous consultation. Feel free to call on the Student Listener in your dorm or at the Phelps Academy Center or contact Ms. Morse, Counselor and SL Coordinator, at x3431 at the Lamont Health and Wellness Center.
